Hardwood Comics

Sat Jul 4, 2009, 8:39 AM
HWC or Hardwood Comics is my new website, it has the same stuff, just a new name.

In what I've been doing lately.. hmm I have a digital painting I've been working on. I've spent about 6 hours on it, maybe more. Its part of the new comic I'm making. I hope to have it finished soon.

I see so many deviantartists doing paintings and I've become insanely jealous, so I decided to practice some painting in photoshop. I've never really done acrylic type paintings, so I thought Photoshop would be better. I've also thought about maybe doing some watercolor, marker or colored pencil drawings. Getting in the habit of thinking in color. Its definately a different process than doing ink and then coloring it later. It seems like a never ending process of refining, refining. I get stuck on one corner and I'm doing the detailed brickwork of houses that are so far away you shouldn't be able to see that detail. Oh well.

Its not only looking at the other paintings that got me on the digital art kick. The walls in the townhouse I live in are pretty bare. A few people I know suggested I put up some of my own art. Its seems a little strange to do that with my own art, but I'll try it out and see how it feels.

And the final reason I'm painting is I figure I can use it to put on the novel I come out with for my comic. I've contacted a few fantasy artists to get paintings that I could use for a book cover, but never with much success. For some reason they all seemed kinda flaky. It could just be that they are very busy, but the email chains would always break early on. If I can paint my own covers why not? Paint the cover and write the interiors? What's next bind the book myself?

In comic news:
I really wanted to start my current comic project by now, but I've been slacking (my latest comic is on comicgenesis, linked through my website). World of Warcraft has taken hold of me again... Hopefully by the time I hit 80 with my druid I won't feel so compelled to play. I do have most of the thumbnails done, now I'm struggling with making it a 20 or 24 page story. I can't get it to fit in either size. I could be I'll have to do a small story in there as well to make it fit the multiple of 4 pages format.

Website

I have my own website up. I did it all myself so its not the most shiny thing on the block, but hopefully for now it will serve as a exhibit of my art. I'm going to keep most of my comics on there. Check out RedStitchPress.com

Still working on the condo so I haven't had too much drawing time. Still working on finishing "Get Your Boyfriend Back"

Life changes

I've moved within the last few months and there's been quite a bit of work for me to do around the new place. Its not given me chance to do too much drawing, because I've been painting walls instead of photoshop layers.

Keep checking my webcomic, I'll try to stay true to that. Once I finish it I'm going to take a month or so hiatus, then back full force with a longer series.

I also hope to have a full website finished by then.

Months Later

I've been posting a webcomic called "Getting Your Boyfriend Back" on my Tana webcomic page. I've also been doing a bit of work on a website. I'd like to get my own to do some more self-promotion.

After the webcomic is done (on page 15 of 24) I'm going back to geofiction (ie backstories and world building).

Been thinking more about doing model sheets. I need to practice so I can get my characters down pat.

Lately

Broke 10,000 hits. Not bad. Thanks for everyone visiting.

I've been posting more on my webcomic, and focusing on that for a bit. Its planned at 24 pages although, originally I wanted something much smaller.
Also I hope to bring out a number 2 issue to one of my comics, but then I'd have to make a number 1 that I was ok with first.

Here's hoping for next time.

I'm not quite sure which comic to do next. I may go back and write some Taña and Lungo backstories. I still need to fill those out so I can pull comics from them and figure out what really makes my characters tick.

I'm also still filling in my RPG. Got 52 pages and growing. Filling in some of the monsters with stats, demons, elves, all trying to get in there. Need to do drawings for those too. Only have a few done.
